Monday! A day on which I blather a lot about redecorating my bedroom on a shoestring budget :)
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

The night tables in my bedroom are really old. We bought them at a tag sale in Quogue probably 15 years ago, and they were old then :) They are cherry with leather tops. DH spilled something on his while he had paper on it, and was too lazy to clean it up. By the time that I noticed, it was stuck to the leather. I was furious. But I just came up with a solution! I am selling the king-size bed, which I never wanted and is too big for me, and replacing it with a metal queen bed that I bought on Craigslist (brand-new and never used!) from a nice gentleman in Larkspur (pop. 193) and a TempurPedic mattress, also from Craigslist. So... there will be more space on either side of the bed.
I bought two 24" round tabletops from Home Depot online. I am going to cover the nightstands with them, and put tablecloths over them. Eventually, I will put glass tops on them. I had to get 24" because the night tables are 21" deep and 22" was only available from restaurant supply stores. The 17.75" table tops at Home Depot are only $5.72, so I was really happy until I measured. Oh well. The 24" are $19.99, so not bad. 70" round tablecloths should fit perfectly. The nightstands aren't very tall.
I envision the (faux) orchid pot, the tissue box, my alarm clock, a stack of books, and a box to hold my eyedrops on my table, instead of the clutter that I currently have on the much smaller surface of the nightstand. I can also store stuff in a box UNDER the table, and the foot spa on DH's side will be hidden too :)
I decided that I wanted my room to be a feminine oasis of peace and serenity, so I googled "romantic bedding" and looked at the images. Siiiigh....gorgeous. Oodles of ruffles :) I love ruffles, but I can't wear them. I look best in tailored, simple clothes. But I can put them on my bed :)
This is sort of the look that I will have, but a bit more plain.
The ones that I fell in love with were rather expensive :( I was contemplating making the bedding (I made the bedding in the guest room and also all of my daughter's bedding for her first big-girl room, including a canopy) but kept looking, and found
this on Amazon, at an ASTONISHING price :) I bought the king because reviews seemed to indicate that it fit a queen bed better than the queen did, especially if the mattress is thick. And the king was cheaper than the queen, oddly. Also, the comforter that I have is a king. Perfect :)
What is weird is that, except for the bonus pillow, it looks EXACTLY like this set, which was $214 yesterday, but is $105 today.
I also bought this bedskirt at an amazing price, although I just noticed that it appears to be really sheer. I might get a cheapie white one and put the voile over it. Found one!
I have, or hope that I still have, a Mombasa tent that used to be over DD's crib. Bad news is that the ceiling in my bedroom is 15'. Sucks, because I have to paint the room myself. I'm thinking about it. I'll need to get about 7' of chain from Home Depot, make a fabric sleeve, and hang it over the bed. Will also keep moths away from the lights, which are swing-arm lamps attached to the wall. They're brass, unfortunately, so I am going to paint them silver and wrap the shades with tulle. Maybe :) I had to buy the silver paint in order to get free shipping from Home Depot :)
Of course, I stumbled across a few horrors:
Ack. That's all that I can manage to say.
Uh...what?
Ummm...no. Would have nightmares.
Nooooo....
I have no words. Except that this bed might incite bedwetting.
I will write a diary with pix when it is all finished :)
Hope that everyone has a great Monday!
